Item type:Publication, The use of videos for improving listening comprehension(2016-12) ;Lagos Jara, Teresa Liliana ;Rodríguez Chávez, Syndia Fabiola ;Sepúlveda Navarrete, Lorena YoselinVenegas Zurita, Karla SusanaThe focus of this experimental and quantitative research was to find out whether the use of videos improves listening comprehension skills in students. The research was carried out through the implementation of strategies and techniques to improve listening comprehension skills. The sample was taken from two different subsidized schools “Colegio Hispano Americano Rio Viejo” and “Colegio Evangélico Betania”, at high school level. The procedure involved an estimated time of five weeks; during the first week the pre-test was applied to both groups, then during the second until the fourth week, students who belong to the experimental group were trained on activities to improve listening comprehension; and then in the fifth week the post- test was applied to both groups of students. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The contribution of oral-authentic material on vocabulary acquisition in levelling-program students of secondary education.(2019-12) ;Ferrada Orellana, Miguel Antonio ;Romero Palavicino, Evelyn Fernanda ;Muñoz Torres, Francisca VerónicaVenegas Zurita, KarlaAbstract Many EFL students on Chilean institutions show a low level of lexis in English subject due to the strategies used which are little motivating, useless or insignificant to the student. The lack of relevant material does not allow the pupil to read, write or communicate properly as it is highly important to use interesting materials at the moment of teaching. The participants were three different classes of a levelling program of secondary education. The groups were: two “primer ciclo” (9th and 10th grade) and one “segundo ciclo” (11th and 12th grade) from Colegio Andrés Bello L, Chillán. The purpose of this study was to determine if the use of authentic material in EFL classes would improve the vocabulary acquisition. The data was collected via a transversal-quantitative census, in which every student being part of the lessons were exposed to oral-authentic material. The aim of this study could not be answered because of the necessity to stop the research in the middle of the process. Some findings though were seen during the few lessons that were done; the most important one was the motivation towards the material presented, students showed a good reception towards the recordings.
